Mumbai CNG Price Hike: MGL Raises Rates by ₹1 to ₹89 Per Kg From October 1

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Mumbai and adjoining areas have increased by ₹1 per kg from October 1, with the revised price now standing at ₹89 per kg.

The price revision was announced by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which attributed the increase to higher input gas costs, including the rising cost of imported Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG).

According to MGL, the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has contributed to higher international gas prices. A significant portion of the gas required to meet CNG demand is sourced through imported RLNG, making the company’s input costs more sensitive to international price movements.

The revised CNG rate came into effect from midnight on September 30 and the morning of October 1.

MGL said the ₹1 increase was intended to partially offset the rise in input costs while maintaining a continued and sustained supply of CNG to consumers.

The latest increase is expected to affect auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, buses, commercial vehicle owners and private motorists who depend on CNG. Higher fuel costs could also add to the operating expenses of transport operators.

MGL currently supplies CNG to more than 1.3 million vehicles through a network of over 500 CNG stations across its operating areas.

The latest hike follows a ₹2-per-kg increase in September, when CNG prices were raised to ₹88 per kg in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

With the latest revision, motorists in Mumbai will now pay ₹89 for every kilogram of CNG.
