PM Modi says, BRICS, under India’s Chairmanship, will work together to build a more inclusive world order
PM Modi Highlights Multilateralism and Global South Cooperation at BRICS Meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that under India’s Chairmanship this year, BRICS will work together to strengthen multilateralism, promote sustainable development, enhance economic resilience and contribute to a more inclusive world order.
Prime Minister Modi made the remarks while interacting with Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegation of BRICS countries who called on him in New Delhi. The interaction took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting being hosted under India’s 2026 chairship.
Modi said BRICS has emerged as an important platform for strengthening cooperation among emerging economies and for giving greater voice to the aspirations of the Global South.
Earlier, addressing the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that peace and security remain important elements of the global order. He emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing conflicts and international challenges.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira were among the foreign ministers participating in the BRICS engagement in New Delhi.
The 2026 BRICS chairship under India is focused on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The meetings form part of India’s wider BRICS engagement during its 2026 chairship, with discussions covering global and regional issues, economic cooperation, multilateral reforms and development priorities.
