Rama Vij is a talented and versatile actress who has made a memorable contribution to Hindi and Punjabi cinema as well as Indian television. Known for her natural acting and graceful screen presence, she is particularly remembered for her role as Teacher Ji in the popular television serial Nukkad.
Born on September 5, 1951, in Delhi, Rama Vij developed an interest in acting during her school days. While studying in the sixth class, she participated in a school play and surprisingly played the role of a rabbit. This early experience encouraged her to pursue the performing arts. She was also interested in dancing and sports, especially hockey. She represented the Delhi State hockey team and even served as its captain.
With a strong desire to become a professional actress, Rama Vij joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, where she completed a two-year diploma course in acting. After her training, she returned to Delhi and completed her graduation from Indraprastha College.
Her film career began with Taxi Taxi, featuring Amol Palekar. She later appeared in several Hindi films, including Pal Do Pal Ka Saath, Aarambh, Lava, Veerana, Joshilaay, Prem Qaidi and Chand Ka Tukda.
Rama Vij also earned recognition in Punjabi cinema with the 1981 classic Chann Pardesi, in which she played the character of Kammo. The film featured celebrated actors such as Raj Babbar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Amrish Puri and Om Puri and became an important milestone in Punjabi cinema.
Her portrayal of Teacher Ji in Nukkad brought her widespread television recognition. Her realistic and sincere performances made her a familiar face among viewers.
