RATNAGIRI, Sept. 28: A 32-year-old woman was seriously injured after falling from the fourth floor of an apartment building in Ratnagiri's Mandavi area on September 26. Police have registered a case against her husband and four of his family members following a complaint alleging physical and mental harassment.

The incident took place at an apartment complex in Al-Hamd Park, Mandavi, at around 7.30 pm on September 26, according to reports citing police information. The woman was initially taken to a private hospital and was subsequently shifted to Ratnagiri District Government Hospital for further treatment. She sustained injuries to her right hand, right leg and other parts of her body.

Allegations in complaint

According to the complaint, the woman alleged that she had been subjected to physical and mental harassment by members of her matrimonial family between April 2026 and September 26, 2026.

She allegedly told police that she was repeatedly pressured to bring money from her parental family for purchasing a flat. The complaint also contains allegations concerning restrictions on her movements and disagreements over access to her two children.

The woman further alleged that her belongings were checked when she left the house and that she was prevented from attending certain family functions. She also alleged that her children were kept with her in-laws while she was sent to her parental home.

Police register case

Based on the complaint, Ratnagiri City Police have registered a case against the woman's husband and four members of his family. The accused include her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and two other female relatives, according to reports citing the police case.

Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Sandesh Chavan is conducting the investigation.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations made in the complaint. The allegations against the accused have not been independently established and no finding of guilt has been made at this stage.
