Sports Department’s Website Faces Technical Issues, Teachers Raise Concerns

Parbhani (Correspondent), Sept. 7: What was intended to be a step towards digital modernisation has reportedly faced technical challenges for the Maharashtra Sports and Youth Services Department. After the department shut down its old website and introduced a new portal for school sports registrations, the new system has reportedly faced technical difficulties, with the old website being restored in some divisions.

The situation has raised concerns over whether the new website was adequately tested before being introduced for use by schools and sports teachers across Maharashtra.

Teachers were directed to register their schools and students on the new portal and pay the required sports fees online. Several teachers reportedly experienced difficulties with registration procedures, login issues and other technical glitches. Some teachers also reportedly faced difficulties accessing their accounts even after completing the registration process.

The situation became more complicated when sports teachers, following official instructions, reportedly paid school and student registration fees from their own pockets. With the new portal continuing to face technical issues, some divisions have reportedly restarted the old website and asked teachers to complete the payment process again.

According to information provided by officials, the earlier payments are expected to be refunded within 15 to 20 days.

For teachers, the situation has resulted in additional administrative work, repeated payment procedures and concerns over the temporary blocking of personal funds. A system intended to simplify the registration process has instead created difficulties for some users.

The developments have also prompted questions regarding the planning, testing and technical supervision of the new portal. Questions have been raised over whether adequate testing and a trial run were conducted before the website was launched.

Teachers and other stakeholders are also seeking clarity regarding responsibility for resolving the technical problems and ensuring that users do not face additional financial or administrative difficulties.

The website-related issues have reportedly created uncertainty around taluka and district-level sports competitions. Any prolonged delay at the grassroots level could affect divisional and state-level events and create difficulties for student athletes preparing for competitions.

The situation has also brought attention to concerns related to unaided sports disciplines. Registrations for some such sports have reportedly been delayed, while several sports organisations have been seeking equal recognition and timely registration procedures.

Sports organisations have also raised concerns regarding grace marks for athletes participating in certain unaided sports disciplines. According to these organisations, many athletes spend significant amounts from their own resources to participate in competitions but do not receive the same academic benefits available in some recognised or aided disciplines.

The issues surrounding the website have therefore highlighted broader concerns about the need for reliable digital systems, adequate testing, efficient administration and timely grievance resolution within the sports department.

Stakeholders are seeking an early resolution of the website-related problems, timely refunds for any duplicate payments, clarity regarding the competition schedule and consideration of the long-pending demands raised by organisations representing unaided sports disciplines.

The department's response to these concerns and the steps taken to resolve the technical issues will be important for ensuring that the digital registration process does not create additional difficulties for teachers, schools and student athletes.
