Staff Shortage at Ichchapuram Ward Secretariat!

Nine Staff Members Required, but Only Three Available – Are Citizens Receiving Timely Services?

Ichchapuram, October 10: Sadi Syam Prasad Reddy, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) In-charge of Ichchapuram, visited the Ward Secretariat serving Wards 1, 2, and 3 of Ichchapuram Municipality today. During the visit, several concerns came to light regarding staff shortages and the lack of basic office facilities.

Only Three Employees Available Despite a Requirement of Nine

It was observed that the office requires approximately nine staff members to function effectively, but currently operates with only three employees. Furthermore, even basic stationery required for the day-to-day functioning of the office is reportedly unavailable, raising serious concerns about the delivery of public services.

Due to the shortage of staff, the existing employees are facing an increased workload. In addition to their regular responsibilities, they must handle various government programmes, administrative duties, and other assignments. As a result, delays in providing essential services to the public have become a matter of concern.

Problems Within a System Established to Serve the Public

The Village and Ward Secretariat system was established with the noble objectives of bringing government services closer to citizens, ensuring transparent administration, and resolving public grievances promptly.

However, the reported shortage of staff and lack of essential office supplies raise questions about the functioning of this administrative system. Concerns have also been expressed that the number of services being delivered to the public has declined compared with previous years.

Focus on Improving Public Services Rather Than Changing Names

The Village and Ward Secretariat system was introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Instead of making changes to the names of these secretariats, the present government should focus on strengthening the system and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.

Criticism has been raised that greater attention is being given to changing the names of secretariats, while sufficient efforts are not being made to address staffing shortages and improve their day-to-day functioning.

What people need is not a change in the names of government offices, but adequate staff, essential infrastructure, sufficient office supplies, and the timely delivery of government services.

Authorities Must Take Immediate Action

The concerned authorities are urged to respond immediately to the problems affecting the Ward Secretariat serving Wards 1, 2, and 3 of Ichchapuram Municipality.

Immediate steps should be taken to appoint the required staff, provide essential stationery and other office supplies, reduce the workload on existing employees, and ensure that citizens receive government services without unnecessary delays.

Protect Citizens' Dignity and Restore Public Trust

Government offices should function as centres of public service, where every citizen is treated with dignity and receives timely assistance. People should have confidence that their grievances will be addressed and their problems resolved.

However, when citizens face difficulties due to staff shortages and the absence of basic facilities, their trust in government institutions may be seriously affected.

People need development that can be seen in action, not just promises. They need better public services, not merely changes in names. They need solutions to their problems, not political publicity.

Sadi Syam Prasad Reddy, YSRCP In-charge of Ichchapuram, has called upon the concerned authorities and public representatives to examine the problems at the Ward Secretariat and take immediate steps to ensure better public services for the people.
