Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena’s Resignation Accepted; Successor Yet to Be Finalised
BHUBANESWAR, September 19, 2026: The resignation of Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena has been accepted by the Centre with effect from September 11, 2026, leaving the capital’s DCP post vacant as the Odisha government considers the next appointment.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on September 11 stating that the President had accepted the resignation of Jagmohan Meena, IPS (OD:2013), with effect from the same date.
Meena, a 2013-batch IPS officer and IIT-Kanpur alumnus, had taken charge as Bhubaneswar DCP on February 28, 2025. He had submitted his resignation in July, citing personal reasons and plans to move to the private sector. The resignation was subsequently forwarded by the state government to the Ministry of Home Affairs for approval.
Officers Being Discussed for the Post
With the festive season approaching, the appointment of a regular DCP is being considered important for policing arrangements in the capital. According to reports, several IPS officers are being discussed as possible choices for the position.
Among the officers whose names have emerged are 2015-batch IPS officers Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu, presently SP of Keonjhar; Dr. Saravana Vivek M, presently SP of Berhampur; and Rahul Jain, who has served in policing assignments including Deogarh.
The officers have different field and administrative experiences across Odisha. However, the state government has not officially announced a successor to Meena at the time of this report.
Possible Interim Arrangement
An interim arrangement involving an Additional DCP is also understood to be under consideration until a regular appointment is made. The appointment could form part of a broader reshuffle at the SP level.
The final decision on the next Bhubaneswar DCP will be taken by the competent authorities. Until an official order is issued, the names being discussed should be treated as possible candidates rather than confirmed appointments.
