Night Operation by Forest Department in Gamiri Range of Kaziranga National Park: Locally Made Gun and Shoes recovered from the spot :

March 21 – 2026 :
A rhino poaching attempt was thwarted last night in the Biswanath Wildlife Division of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. According to Field Assistant Dr. Sonali Ghosh, forest staff received intelligence about poachers entering the Gamiri forest area of the division. Security and patrolling were immediately tightened. Around midnight, forest personnel spotted a suspicious individual carrying what looked like a firearm. Acting swiftly, a joint operation was launched by the forest range officer and the Wildlife Crime Investigation team. During the chase, the suspect managed to escape under cover of darkness. However, the forest team recovered a locally made bolt-less rifle and a pair of shoes from the site.

Thanks to the forest department’s timely action, the poaching attempt was foiled. Search operations are still underway to trace the suspect and the gang believed to be involved, though they have not yet been apprehended.
