Over 1,000 Indians Deported from the US in Just Two Years, Amid Immigration Crackdown

In a significant development regarding Indian nationals abroad, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) revealed that a total of 1,174 Indians have been deported from the United States in the year 2026 alone. This alarming statistic was announced by ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a routine media briefing held on Friday. The numbers paint a troubling picture of the ongoing immigration situation for Indian citizens in the US.

Jaiswal also highlighted that the previous year, 2025, saw the deportation of 3,576 Indians, indicating a persistent trend of mass deportations. The MEA has been actively engaged in discussions with US authorities regarding migration and mobility, emphasizing the importance of curbing illegal immigration while not negatively impacting legal migration avenues.

Since the re-election of US President Donald Trump in early 2025, his administration has initiated a tough stance on immigration, resulting in widespread crackdowns and mass deportations. This policy shift aims to address concerns regarding illegal immigration, but it raises worries about the potential backlash on those seeking legitimate pathways for migration.

The MEA’s ongoing dialogues with US officials reflect India’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its citizens abroad, even as both countries grapple with the complexities of immigration policy. As discussions progress, Indian authorities hope to safeguard the interests of legal migrants while simultaneously addressing the challenges raised by illegal immigration.

As India and the US continue to navigate the intricate dynamics of migration, it remains crucial for Indian nationals residing in the US to stay informed about their rights and responsibilities. The evolving immigration landscape underscores the need for robust legal frameworks that would ensure fair treatment for all migrants while effectively managing broader immigration concerns.
