Prime Accused Arrested in Arunachal Double Murder Case After Three-Week Manhunt

Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested the prime accused in a gruesome double murder case reported from Changlang district, bringing an end to an intense manhunt that lasted nearly three weeks and stretched across state borders into Assam.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu identified the accused as Madan Karmakar.
According to police reports, Karmakar is accused of murdering 42-year-old Bablu Kol and his seven-year-old daughter Rishita Kol on the night of March 4. The incident took place in the Kamlao area under the jurisdiction of Manmao Police Station.
Following the incident, a case of double murder was registered on March 5 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused allegedly fled the scene immediately after the crime and went into hiding in Assam, prompting authorities to launch a large-scale search operation.
Police teams worked across districts and coordinated with their counterparts in Assam to track down the suspect. After weeks of sustained efforts and intelligence inputs, the accused was finally apprehended, marking a significant development in the case.
Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killings and to establish the sequence of events leading to the crime.
The arrest has brought some relief to the local community, which had been in shock since the tragic incident.
