New Delhi, April 1 (IPU Media Update News) : Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been discharged from the hospital after a stay of one week. Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi issued a statement to this effect. Sonia, who was admitted to the hospital around 10:30 PM on the 24th of this month due to a fever, underwent treatment for seven days. She was discharged as she has now recovered.
Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on the night of March 24, around 10:30 PM, suffering from a fever. A team of doctors conducted comprehensive examinations and confirmed that she was suffering from a systemic infection. Subsequently, treatment involving antibiotics was initiated. Doctors stated that changing weather conditions and the pollution levels in Delhi were the primary reasons for Sonia Gandhi’s illness. As her health deteriorated manifesting symptoms such as chest tightness and minor respiratory issues,she was kept under medical supervision at the hospital.
** Sonia Gandhi Discharged Following Improvement in Health **
Hospital Chairman Dr. Ajay Swaroop confirmed that Sonia Gandhi was treated with antibiotics for the systemic infection. He added that the treatment was administered under the supervision of Dr. D.S. Rana, Dr. S. Nandi, and Dr. Arup Basu. Doctors revealed that Sonia’s health has improved significantly as she responded well to treatment. Consequently, they stated that she was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday morning. Overall, with her health remaining stable, Sonia will continue her ongoing treatment while resting at home.
** Sonia Gandhi Suffering from Asthma **
Sonia Gandhi has been facing health issues for some time now; she suffers from bronchial asthma. She has even traveled abroad for treatment. She undergoes regular medical check-ups whenever pollution levels in Delhi are high. In January of this year, she was hospitalized due to respiratory complications. At that time as well, her asthma symptoms were exacerbated by rising pollution levels. Even after being discharged, she remained under medical supervision at her residence for several days. Prior to this, in June 2025, she was hospitalized for a few days due to a stomach infection. Her health had suddenly deteriorated while she was touring Himachal Pradesh, where she subsequently received treatment at a hospital in Shimla.
** Rahul Gandhi Visits the Hospital **
While Sonia Gandhi was hospitalized, Rahul Gandhi the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Sonia Gandhi’s son visited her. At that time, he decided to cancel his scheduled tour of Kerala in order to stay by her side. Speaking at a public gathering in Kerala, Rahul Gandhi stated that he had been anxious due to his mother’s hospitalization, which is why he had decided to cancel his tour. Rahul Gandhi also praised the services of a nurse from Kerala who looked after his mother every hour throughout the night at the hospital. He shared this on social media.
