Jammu, April 10, IPU Media Update News : The process for advance registration for the renowned Amarnath Yatra is set to commence nationwide on the 15th of this month across 554 branches of designated banks. In this regard, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has issued guidelines for pilgrims. The Board stated that the process of registering pilgrim details and issuing permits will be conducted on a ‘First Come, First Served’ basis, in accordance with the daily quota allocated for each route. While permission for the Yatra is granted only to individuals aged between 13 and 70, women who are more than six weeks pregnant are prohibited from undertaking the journey. Pilgrims are required to mandatorily submit a Health Certificate obtained from authorized doctors or medical institutions (issued on or after April 8). The registration process will be conducted using an Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC method. The application fee has been fixed at Rs. 150. The Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3, and the registration process will conclude seven days prior to its commencement.
Every year, thousands of devotees embark on the spiritually significant Amarnath Yatra, driven by faith and the promise of a divine experience. In 2026, this pilgrimage is scheduled to span 38 days, running from July 3 to August 9. However, before embarking on this arduous pilgrimage, making preparations is crucial especially since registration officially begins on April 15, 2026.
Organized by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), this pilgrimage follows a strictly regulated process designed to ensure safety, effective crowd management, and a smooth overall experience. From Aadhaar-based verification to mandatory health check-ups, here are the complete details to help you plan ahead.
✪ The registration process is available through both online and offline modes.
👉🏾 Online Registration:
Applicants may register starting April 15 via the official SASB website or the “Shri Amarnathji Yatra” mobile app. This process involves OTP verification using a registered mobile number and email ID. Applicants are required to upload a scanned copy of the Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) issued on or after April 8, 2026 along with a passport-sized photograph.
👉🏾 Offline Registration:
Alternatively, devotees may visit any of the 554 designated bank branches located across India. Registration is conducted on a “first-come, first-served” basis, subject to a prescribed daily quota. Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC verification is performed instantly. In the event of technical glitches, a photograph will be captured via a webcam to facilitate manual registration.
A fee of ₹150 is applicable for every online and offline registration.
✪ RFID Card Mandatory for Yatra Entry
The RFID card, which has been made mandatory this year, is a crucial requirement. Upon completing registration, pilgrims must collect this card from designated centers in Jammu and Kashmir following biometric verification. Without it, entry through access points such as Domel or Chandanwari will not be permitted.
✪ Eligibility Criteria and Health Requirements

✪ Routes to the Holy Shrine
Pilgrims may choose between two main routes, each offering a unique experience:
👉🏾 Pahalgam Route (Traditional): Approximately 46 km (one-way) in length, this route features a gradual ascent. Traditionally, it is considered ideal for those seeking a journey with a gentler incline.
👉🏾 Baltal Route (Shorter but Steeper): Approximately 14 km (one-way) in length, this route is faster but significantly more challenging.
👉🏾 For those unable to complete the pilgrimage on foot, helicopter services are available from both routes up to Panjtarni. Important Guidelines and Safety Measures

Group registration is permitted for groups ranging from 5 to 30 members.
The specific route and travel date are clearly specified on the permits.

Along the route, facilities such as tents, accommodation, and medical assistance are available. However, given the rugged terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, pilgrims are strongly advised to be physically prepared and to carry appropriate clothing.
