Stray Dog Menace

The menace of stray dog attacks on children and the elderly has been steadily increasing across many states, raising serious concerns about public safety and urban management. Incidents of dog bites and aggressive encounters are becoming more frequent, particularly in residential areas, parks, and near schools, where vulnerable groups are most at risk. Despite this growing problem, the authorities responsible for controlling the stray dog population often lack both the resources and the sustained commitment required to address the issue effectively.
Stray dogs tend to move in packs, which significantly increases their aggression and the danger they pose to humans and other animals, including pet dogs and even stray cattle. Veterinary experts warn that dogs living on the streets are more susceptible to diseases such as rabies, a life-threatening condition, and can also transmit infections like Capnocytophaga to humans through bites or close contact.
To tackle this challenge, authorities must expand and strengthen sterilization and vaccination programs by increasing the number of neutering centers and ensuring consistent implementation. Public awareness campaigns are equally important to educate communities on safe behavior around stray animals. At the same time, compassionate citizens who wish to care for dogs should be encouraged to adopt them, providing proper shelter, nutrition, and medical care—thus transforming a public concern into a shared social responsibility.
