Howrah: A security alert was issued in the Fajirbazar area along G.T. Road in Howrah after an unattended bag was found in a public place on Friday.

According to local sources, residents noticed the suspicious bag and informed the police, following which officers from the Howrah City Police and the Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot.

As a precautionary measure, the area was secured and access was temporarily restricted while officials examined the unattended bag. The Bomb Disposal Squad safely removed the bag from the location and transported it to a secure area near the banks of the Ganges for inspection.

Upon examination, officials found that the bag contained mangoes and no hazardous materials or explosive devices were detected.

Police have initiated an inquiry into the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the person who left the bag unattended and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have urged the public to promptly report any unattended or suspicious objects and to avoid speculation until official verification is completed.
