Hyderabad:
The Telangana government is reportedly considering transferring the Government Engineering College, Kosgi, to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad. According to sources, an official order regarding the proposal may be issued after the completion of administrative procedures.
If approved, the Government Engineering College, Kosgi, would function as a constituent college of JNTU-Hyderabad.
The institution was established in 2024 by upgrading an existing government polytechnic college. The State government allocated land and funds for the development of infrastructure and academic facilities at the college.
Sources indicate that the Technical Education Department has faced administrative and operational challenges in managing the institution. The proposal to transfer the college is being examined as a possible measure to streamline academic administration and improve institutional management.
The government had earlier expressed interest in establishing additional government engineering colleges on a similar model. However, officials are reportedly reviewing the performance and operational requirements of existing institutions before moving forward with further expansion plans.
The college currently offers undergraduate programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), CSE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and CSE Data Science. The total intake capacity is 180 seats, with 60 seats in each programme.
According to available enrollment data, the college admitted around 140 students during its first academic cycle, while enrollment reportedly declined in the following cycle. Sources state that some students who initially secured admission through the TG EAPCET counselling process later opted for admission in other institutions.
Meanwhile, JNTU-Hyderabad has reportedly submitted proposals related to infrastructure development, faculty requirements and funding support for the institution. The proposals are understood to be under consideration by the government.
No official announcement has yet been made regarding the final decision on the transfer.
