Hyderabad: A 28-year-old man from Telangana was shot dead in the United States while working as a pizza delivery driver, according to information received by his family and reports from local authorities.
The victim, identified as Anshul Kuncha, was killed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
According to reports, Anshul had accepted a pizza delivery order and traveled to the designated location when the shooting occurred. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including reports that the order may have been placed using false information.
Anshul, a resident of Gundlapochampally in Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district, had moved to the United States in 2023 to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He was employed with a multinational company and was also undertaking part-time pizza delivery work on weekends.
Family members said they were informed that the incident occurred shortly after Anshul arrived at the delivery location. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been officially established, and law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation.
According to media reports cited by the family, unidentified suspects were seen in the vicinity around the time of the incident. Authorities have not publicly announced any arrests in connection with the case.
Anshul’s family has appealed to both the Central and Telangana governments for assistance in expediting the repatriation of his mortal remains to India.
Family members also stated that Anshul had previously experienced a robbery incident during his stay in the United States, in which personal belongings were reportedly stolen.
The Consulate General of India in New York expressed condolences over the incident and confirmed that it is coordinating with local authorities and the family.
In a statement posted on social media, the Consulate said it was deeply saddened by Anshul’s death and was extending all possible assistance to his family during this difficult time.
Authorities in the United States are continuing their investigation into the shooting.
