Kolkata, June 8: West Bengal Police on Monday arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Falta Assembly constituency candidate Jahangir Khan near the India–Nepal border in North Bengal. The arrest was carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) following a search operation, according to police officials.
Police stated that Khan was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged extortion-related offences. Authorities said he had been evading law enforcement agencies for several days before being apprehended near the international border.
Jahangir Khan had attracted public attention during the recent West Bengal Assembly elections following controversies linked to the Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district. The constituency remained in the spotlight after allegations of electoral irregularities surfaced during the election process.
