In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday, a fire erupted in a multi-story building in the Malviya Nagar area of Delhi, claiming the lives of 20 individuals. According to reports from the Delhi Police, the blaze was fierce, yet firefighters managed to control it swiftly, minimizing further damage.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Satish Upadhyay, representing the Malviya Nagar constituency, confirmed that 47 people were successfully rescued from the building. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as flames engulfed the structure, with many people trapped inside. Fire Officer AK Malik provided insights into the situation, stating that the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

What added to the tragedy was the fact that several foreign nationals were among those affected. Preliminary investigations revealed that the building likely did not function as a residential complex. Instead, it appeared to serve as temporary accommodation for families and friends of patients receiving treatment at the MAX Hospital situated directly across the street.

According to Malik, it is believed that most of the building’s occupants were there specifically to support their loved ones during medical emergencies. Additionally, rescue operations uncovered that some individuals were trapped in the basement of a restaurant located within the building.
