A devastating incident unfolded in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where a fire erupted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital, leading to the unfortunate deaths of four individuals. The fire broke out on the fifth floor of Prasad Hospital, where 15 patients were being cared for in the ICU at the time. District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen stated that preliminary assessments suggest a short circuit may have ignited the blaze, although a comprehensive investigation is required to ascertain the precise cause. Emergency services were alerted around 3:55 AM, and promptly dispatched 12 fire tenders to control the situation.
As the fire engulfed the ICU, hospital staff and first responders sprang into action, evacuating patients to safeguard their lives. Reports indicate that some patients were being treated in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and were also relocated to ensure their safety. This swift response was critical in mitigating further casualties, but the loss of life has left the community in shock.
In light of this tragedy, Chief Minister Choudhary announced a compensation package of INR 4 lakh for the bereaved families, reiterating the government’s commitment to assisting those affected by the incident. He also assured that the local administration is on high alert and has made necessary arrangements at district hospitals to provide medical care to the injured.
