In a devastating accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant located in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalle district, eight workers tragically lost their lives after molten metal spilled onto them on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:40 PM when a ladle carrying liquid steel exploded in the Steel Melting Shop-1, as reported by various news agencies including PTI.
At the time of the explosion, approximately twenty workers were present in the facility. The blast resulted in a catastrophic fire, releasing hundreds of tonnes of molten steel onto the shop floor. The molten metal, which reached a staggering temperature of around 1,600 degrees Celsius, created an immediate and life-threatening situation for those working in the vicinity. Emergency responders were quickly on-site, but the severity of the incident led to the tragic loss of life.
In addition to the fatalities, at least six workers suffered severe burns and were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. The injured individuals have been identified as R Mallikharjuna Rao, P Srinivasa Rao, A Appa Rao, Satyanarayana, G Suribabu, and Paidiraju. Their conditions are being closely monitored by medical personnel, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
