In a heartbreaking incident, a military transport aircraft met with tragedy shortly after takeoff in Puerto Leguizamo, Colombia, resulting in the loss of at least 66 lives while leaving numerous others injured. The C-130 Hercules aircraft, which was carrying 128 individuals, primarily military personnel, crashed on Monday, sending shockwaves across the nation and the military community.

General Hugo Alejandro López Barreto, who leads Colombia’s armed forces, provided updates on the situation, confirming that 57 people had been rescued from the wreckage, though four soldiers remained unaccounted for. The aircraft was undertaking a mission to transport troops to another city within the Putumayo region. Initial reports from the military suggest that there is no current evidence indicating an attack from illegal armed groups, a prevalent threat in the region.

Social media was flooded with distressing videos showing billowing clouds of smoke rising from the crash site, igniting public concern and grief. Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez also took to social media to share updates and reassure citizens that the armed forces were actively responding to the situation.
