Urmila Pawar Honored with Lifetime Achievement at 2026 Women AutHer Awards

The 2026 Women AutHer Awards celebrated literary excellence on Sunday, recognizing outstanding contributions from women writers across various genres. The awards, which highlight the rich tapestry of female narratives in India, saw winners selected both by expert juries and through popular online voting, reflecting a broad spectrum of reader engagement.

Among the notable winners, Marathi author Urmila Pawar was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Renowned for her poignant autobiography, “The Weave of My Life: A Dalit Woman’s Memoirs,” Pawar has made significant strides in giving voice to the often-ignored stories of marginalized communities. The jury praised her for “shaping conversations around identity, equality, and justice with remarkable honesty and depth,” acknowledging her impactful role in the literary world.

The ceremony showcased a diverse array of talent, with winners spanning multiple categories. In fiction, Kavery Nambisan’s “Rising Sons” took the top spot, while the children’s book category was won by Likla Lall for “Ganesh Haloi: Colours of Home.” The nonfiction segment saw two noteworthy winners: Vidya Rajan’s “Rubber: The Social and Natural History of an Indispensable Substance” and Narayani Basu’s “A Man For All Seasons: The Life Of KM Panikkar.”

The debut category was particularly vibrant, with Swati Pandey’s “Invisible in Plain Sight: Voices From the By-Lanes of Kamathipura” and Subi Taba’s “Tales from the Dawn-Lit Mountains” earning accolades. Additionally, the popular choice award went to Astha Gill’s “Blame it on the Hormones: The Divine Chemistry, The Daily Chaos,” capturing the attention of readers nationwide. Meanwhile, Saanvi Shabeesh was recognized for the best manuscript with her compelling work, “City of Doom.”

The Women AutHer Awards not only celebrate literary talent but also aim to inspire more women to share their stories and perspectives. By amplifying voices from varied backgrounds, the awards foster a richer understanding of India’s diverse culture and challenges.
