Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) organized a meeting in Amritsar to address the ongoing issue of power cuts in Punjab. Members of the organization highlighted the difficulties faced by residents and farmers due to prolonged electricity outages across the state.
During the meeting, the state president alleged that there is a significant gap between electricity generation and demand. According to the organization, around 4700 MW of power is currently being generated, while the state’s requirement is estimated to be close to 12,000 MW, leading to a substantial shortfall. (These figures are based on claims made by the organization.)
Leaders also expressed concern that rising temperatures, as predicted by experts, could further increase electricity demand and worsen the situation in the coming weeks.
The meeting was attended by Lakhwinder Bachan (Punjab President), Prakash Kumar (District President), Jaskiran Singh (Punjab Secretary), and Robin Arora (District Vice President), along with other members.
The organization announced another meeting scheduled for April 27, 2026, at 2 PM, and appealed to residents to support efforts aimed at raising the issue with the Punjab government.
Note: An official response from the state government is awaited.
