Child Dies After Alleged Caste-Based Assault Near Temple in Telangana; Police Begin Investigation

Hyderabad: A disturbing incident of alleged caste discrimination and violence has been reported from Telangana, where a family from a backward caste community claimed they were assaulted near a temple after being denied entry while visiting with their young child.

According to preliminary reports, the family had gone to a local temple to seek blessings for their newborn baby. However, they were allegedly asked to pay an entry fee of ₹100 before being allowed inside the temple premises. When the family refused to pay, a group of men reportedly began abusing and attacking the child’s father.

Alleged Assault

The situation reportedly escalated when the man’s wife attempted to intervene and protect her husband. The family alleged that the attackers beat them with a rod and pushed them into a crowd while the woman was still holding their infant child.

During the chaos, the woman claimed that the attackers also snatched her gold earrings, silver bangles, and mobile phone. The family further alleged that they were threatened with further harm if they reported the matter.

Child’s Death After Three Days

Tragically, the family’s two-year-old child passed away three days after the incident. The parents believe the child suffered injuries during the assault and blame the attack for the death.

Police officials said a case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for suspicious death. Authorities have begun an investigation and are waiting for the forensic and post-mortem reports to determine the exact cause of the child’s death.

Investigation Underway

Police have stated that appropriate legal action will be taken depending on the medical findings and evidence collected during the investigation. Statements from witnesses and family members are also being recorded.

Social Concerns

The incident has raised serious concerns about alleged caste discrimination and violence, which activists say still exists in some parts of the country despite legal protections.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues, assuring that justice will be delivered based on the findings of the inquiry.

Police are expected to release more details once the forensic reports are completed and the investigation progresses.
