Delhi Police Nab Trio for Illegally Hoarding and Distributing LPG Cylinders

The Delhi Police have made significant strides in combating the illegal trade of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by apprehending three individuals in the Mahipalpur area on Saturday. The arrested suspects, identified as Krishna (33), Dinesh Sahu (46), and Mithilesh (39), are accused of unlawfully hoarding and distributing LPG cylinders without the necessary licenses.

According to police reports, a total of 70 domestic LPG cylinders and four commercial cylinders were confiscated during the operation. Out of the domestic cylinders, 54 were found fully filled while 16 cylinders had been used, illustrating the scale of their operation. Additionally, three of the commercial cylinders were also filled, indicating a well-established network of illegal supply that has reportedly been operational for the past three years.

The police’s decisive action followed a tip-off that led to a raid in the region. Authorities described the suspects’ inability to produce valid licenses for the storage and sale of these cylinders, highlighting the severity of the offense. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Amit Goel reaffirmed the department’s commitment to cracking down on the illegal trade of essential commodities, emphasizing that such operations are crucial for ensuring public safety and fair market practices.

Notably, this raid is part of a broader initiative by the Delhi Police to address the rampant illegal hoarding of vital supplies, particularly amid recent energy supply disruptions attributed to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Just last week, the police seized around 700 LPG cylinders from various warehouses and shops that were reportedly engaged in similar illicit activities. The ongoing investigation aims to dismantle these networks and prevent further illegal trading.

The implications of such activities are far-reaching, especially in a country where LPG is a primary source of fuel for many households. The illegal hoarding and supply of these cylinders not only endanger public safety but also exacerbate energy shortages during critical times. The authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities related to the unlawful sale or distribution of LPG, as community vigilance plays a vital role in combating this issue.
