Heroin Racket Busted in Namsai; One Arrested, 26 Grams of Suspected Drugs Seized

Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh: Police in Namsai district have busted a suspected drug racket and arrested one individual after recovering more than 26 grams of suspected heroin during a search operation.

According to officials, the operation was carried out by Chongkham Police Station in the Mimey area under Chongkham jurisdiction. During the search, police recovered 26.06 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside two soap cases from the residence of Chow Yasha Hopak (41), a resident of Gunanagar village.

Search Operation

The search operation was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate to ensure legal procedures were followed. The raid was led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi and Officer-in-Charge Lady Inspector Nang Kyamo Khen, under the supervision of SP Sangey Thinley (APPS).

Police officials stated that the suspected contraband was carefully hidden inside soap containers at the accused’s residence in the Mimey area.

Case Registered

Following the seizure, authorities registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The accused has been booked under Sections 21(b) and 25 of the Act, which deal with possession and involvement in illegal drug trafficking.

Investigation Underway

Police said further investigation is currently underway to determine whether the arrested individual was part of a larger drug network operating in the region.

Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh have been intensifying anti-drug operations in recent months as part of efforts to curb the spread of narcotics in border districts.

Officials urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
