The Karnataka High Court has called upon the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide its response regarding a plea from Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni. He is contesting both his conviction and life imprisonment sentence tied to the murder of Yogeshgouda Goudar, a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which occurred in 2016. This development unfolded during a recent hearing by a division bench comprised of Justices Venkatesh Naik and Mohammed Nawaz.

Kulkarni’s petition challenges the verdict delivered by the trial court on April 15, which had not only convicted him but also implicated 15 others in the murder case. In response, the CBI requested additional time to formulate their objections, citing the extensive nature of the trial court’s 680-page judgment. The court acknowledged this request, indicating that the CBI could approach the vacation bench to seek the necessary time to prepare their response.
