In a significant political maneuver, former Rajya Sabha MP KC Tyagi has officially joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) just five days after his departure from the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U). This transition marks a return to his political roots, as Tyagi was one of the founding members of the RLD established by the prominent leader Chaudhary Charan Singh back in 1974.
The announcement was made during a gathering that saw Tyagi welcomed into the RLD fold by none other than the party’s president, Union Minister Jayant Singh. Speaking to reporters, Tyagi reflected on his early political journey, emphasizing his belief in the ideological similarities between the RLD, JD(U), and other parties rooted in the principles of social justice and agrarian rights. “I don’t see any difference between Lok Dal, RLD, and JD(U). All these parties follow the same ideology,” he stated.
Tyagi’s decision to join the RLD comes on the heels of political upheaval within the JD(U), where Nitish Kumar, the party’s chief and Bihar Chief Minister, was elected to the Rajya Sabha recently. Tyagi’s resignation from JD(U) took place just a day after Kumar’s election, which has raised eyebrows regarding the internal dynamics of the party. The timing suggests a possible shift in alliances ahead of crucial upcoming elections.
In his remarks, Tyagi expressed a commitment to working for the success of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), highlighting that a robust RLD presence in western Uttar Pradesh could bolster the alliance significantly. His return to the RLD is expected to reinvigorate the party’s base in the region, known for its political significance.
As Tyagi embarks on this new chapter, his extensive political experience and historical connection with the RLD may prove advantageous in mobilizing support from farmers and marginalized communities, who are central to Charan Singh’s legacy of social justice. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Tyagi’s unwavering focus on collaboration among like-minded parties may set the stage for new alliances that resonate with the electorate’s aspirations.
