LPG CRISIS
With the expanding conflict between Iran and the US-Israel combine disrupting global fuel lifelines, including India’s LPG supplies, the government has prioritised domestic cooking gas supply to households, leading to a supply crunch for hotels and restaurants, which use commercial LPG.
The government has formed a three-member committee to address grievances and prioritise domestic LPG supply.
In a communication issued on March 10, IRCTC asked operators of food plazas, refreshment rooms and ‘Jan Ahaars’ to switch to alternative arrangements to maintain seamless catering services for travelling passengers.
This advisory comes in the backdrop of the widening conflict in West Asia that may affect the supply of commercial LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders.
Peoples must switch over to alternate cooking modes viz. microwaves and induction, to offset any potential shortage in LPG supplies,” the advisory reads.
Domestic and commercial gas customers were seen rushing to gas agencies to secure cylinders. There is no fresh booking of commercial cylinders, which has hit various industries.
Industry representatives said the crisis has created uncertainty for sectors that depend heavily on liquified petroleum gas (LPG).
Hopefully it will be resolved soon.
