Maid Hired for 10 Days Allegedly Flees With Gold, ₹3 Lakh Cash From Bengaluru Home

Bengaluru: A shocking case of alleged theft by a domestic worker has been reported in Bengaluru after a maid hired by a businessman’s family reportedly fled with gold ornaments and cash worth over ₹23 lakh just ten days after joining the household.

According to police, the incident took place at a residence in Koramangala, one of the city’s prominent residential and commercial areas. The domestic help, identified as Saroj and reportedly from Bihar, had been hired recently as a cook and household worker.

How the Theft Happened

Police said the woman allegedly accessed the house locker key that was kept in a bedside drawer. Investigators believe she used the key to open the locker and steal gold ornaments along with ₹3 lakh in cash before fleeing from the house.
The family discovered the theft only after Saroj suddenly went missing and valuables from the locker were found to be gone. The total value of the stolen items, including gold jewellery and cash, is estimated to be more than ₹23 lakh.

Police Investigation

The complaint has been registered at the Koramangala Police Station under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with theft committed by a servant or employee.

Police teams have launched a search operation to trace the suspect and recover the stolen valuables. Officials are examining possible travel routes and checking CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to track her movements.

Growing Concern in the City

Authorities say similar cases have been reported in recent years in Bengaluru, where domestic helpers hired through informal sources or social media allegedly steal valuables and disappear.

Police officials are urging residents to conduct proper background verification and identity checks before hiring domestic workers, especially live-in staff.

Safety Advisory

Investigators also advise homeowners to avoid leaving locker keys in easily accessible places and to keep valuable items secured.

The investigation into the Koramangala theft case is ongoing, and police say further updates will be provided once the suspect is located.
