The Manipuri Autonomous Council Demand Coordination Committee submitted a memorandum to the Government of Assam following its sit-in demonstration at Fulertol Bypass in Lakhipur on Monday.

The protest was held near the statues of Rabindranath Tagore and Rani Gaidinliu, where community members gathered to press for the creation of a separate Autonomous Council for the Manipuri community in Cachar district.

Led by Retd. ACS Kangabam Santi Kumar, Chairman of the committee, along with Vice Chairman Konjengbam Aruna Devi, Convenor Khetrimayum Shinghajit, and Co-Convenor Dr. Raju Khumujam, the delegation formally placed their demands before the state authorities through the memorandum.

According to committee leaders, the memorandum outlines the need for constitutional safeguards, administrative recognition, and structured development initiatives to protect the cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic interests of the Manipuri community in the Barak Valley region.

The committee stated that the submission of the memorandum marks a significant step in their democratic movement and expressed hope that the state government will take prompt and positive action on their long-pending demand.

The leaders further indicated that they would continue peaceful agitation if necessary, depending on the response from the authorities.
