Mysuru Emerging as Key Startup and IT Hub as Investments and Policy Push Accelerate Growth

Mysuru, March 2026:
Mysuru is witnessing renewed momentum in business and startup activity following recent government announcements, infrastructure projects, and private investments aimed at transforming the city into Karnataka’s second major technology and innovation hub after Bengaluru.

In the Karnataka Budget 2026, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced plans to develop Mysuru as the state’s second IT city, with new technology clusters and industrial investments planned to decentralize growth from Bengaluru and promote regional development.

The government also proposed setting up an aerospace park near Mysuru Airport at Mandakalli to encourage advanced manufacturing and attract new industries to the region.

Industry expansion is already visible in the private sector. Carlsberg India recently invested about ₹100 crore to expand its brewery operations in Mysuru by adding a new canning line, increasing production capacity and creating additional employment opportunities.

The startup ecosystem in the city is also gaining strength. JSS Science and Technology University has been recognised as a Technology Business Incubator under the Karnataka Startup Policy, providing funding and mentoring support for emerging deep-tech and innovation-driven startups.

Experts say Mysuru’s growing pool of graduates, lower operational costs compared to Bengaluru, and increasing government incentives are encouraging startups to consider the city as an alternative technology destination. Reports indicate that startup activity in Mysuru has increased in recent years, with more companies choosing the city for expansion and new ventures.

Recent placement trends also show a shift toward smaller companies and startups, with more students willing to join emerging firms instead of only large IT companies, reflecting the changing business environment in the region.

With new infrastructure projects, incubation centres, and policy support, Mysuru is gradually positioning itself as a growing centre for technology, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship in southern Karnataka.
