As part of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and with the objective of protecting the environment, members of the Sri Nagubandi Veeraiah–Bhadramma Memorial Charitable Trust distributed eco-friendly clay Vinayaka idols to devotees in Kodad Town of Suryapet District, Telangana.

The Trust has been undertaking this noble initiative continuously for the past 15 years, distributing clay Vinayaka idols to the public and creating awareness about the importance of celebrating festivals in an environmentally responsible manner.

Importance of Clay Vinayaka Idols

Clay Vinayaka idols are among the most environmentally friendly choices for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Natural clay dissolves naturally after immersion and causes far less pollution to water bodies compared with idols made from non-biodegradable or chemically treated materials.

In particular, idols made from Plaster of Paris (PoP) may take a long time to dissolve, while chemical-based paints and other materials can adversely affect water quality and aquatic life. Choosing natural clay idols helps devotees celebrate the festival while also respecting and protecting nature.

The Trust members appealed to the people of Kodad and surrounding areas to choose clay Vinayaka idols and avoid materials that can pollute rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies. They also urged devotees to reduce the use of plastic and other non-biodegradable materials during the celebrations.

15 Years of Environmental and Social Service

For the past 15 years, the Sri Nagubandi Veeraiah–Bhadramma Memorial Charitable Trust has been distributing clay Vinayaka idols as part of its continued commitment to environmental protection, social responsibility and community welfare.

The Trust members stated that the objective of this initiative is not merely to distribute idols, but also to create awareness among the public, particularly the younger generation, about protecting the environment while preserving our religious traditions and cultural values.

They emphasized that festivals can be celebrated with devotion, joy and grandeur while simultaneously safeguarding nature for future generations.

Trust Members and Devotees Participate

The programme was attended and supported by Trust members Smt. Yerra Bharathamma, Srinivasa Rao and Chandra Sekhar.

Devotees including Sri. B. Nagabhushana Rao, Smt. Anjani and Vaishnavi, along with several other devotees and members of the local community, participated in the programme and extended their support to the environmental initiative.

The participants appreciated the Trust for continuing the distribution of eco-friendly clay Vinayaka idols for the past 15 years and for promoting awareness about environmental protection through the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The Trust appealed to devotees to make this Ganesh Chaturthi a “Green Ganesh Chaturthi” by choosing eco-friendly clay idols, avoiding plastic and harmful materials, and ensuring that festival celebrations do not cause damage to the environment.

The programme concluded with an appeal to the public to protect nature, preserve our traditions and celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in an eco-friendly manner.
