Applicant Raises Questions Over Wood Business Licence Distribution in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri: Questions have been raised over the distribution of general licences related to the wood business under the Forest Development system in West Bengal. An applicant has alleged that despite her seniority and eligibility, she was not given priority while licences were issued to some other applicants.

According to the applicant, the existing system provides for consideration of eligible applicants based on prescribed rules and seniority. She has questioned how some applicants allegedly received licences without following the seniority-based process.

She further claimed that several hearings were conducted at the Divisional Forest Office and that legal and other expenses were incurred during the proceedings. According to her, despite these efforts and her claim of seniority, she has not received the licence she believes she is eligible for.

The applicant has requested the Jalpaiguri Divisional Forest Officer to examine her case in accordance with the applicable rules and seniority criteria and to take appropriate action if any irregularity is found.

The matter raises questions about transparency and adherence to the prescribed procedure in the distribution of licences. The position of the Forest Department and details from the relevant official records would be important for establishing the facts of the case.
