Aftab Shivdasani Actor In Kolkata For Golden Dealer's Meet
Patna/Kolkata, September 2026: Steel brand TUFCON, the flagship brand of Sri Langta Baba Steels Private Limited, has outlined a proposed investment of around ₹5,500 crore for a greenfield steel manufacturing project in Chakai, Bihar, as part of its broader expansion plans.
The proposed Bihar project was discussed as part of the company's expansion roadmap, which also includes a proposed greenfield project in Nagpur, Maharashtra. According to reports on the company's announcement, the Chakai project has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bihar government.
TUFCON Director Suuraj Gupta said the proposed investment is intended to go beyond expanding manufacturing capacity, with the company looking at employment, logistics, ancillary industries and related services around its future operations.
“I see this as an ecosystem opportunity. Manufacturing capacity is an important part of it, but around that, employment, logistics, ancillary industries, services and regional economic activity can also develop,” Gupta said.
The company has also said that its expansion plans will focus on manufacturing processes, technology adoption, operational efficiency and maintaining quality standards. Gupta said the objective was not only to increase production but also to improve processes and respond to market demand while maintaining quality.
Corporate Head Indranil Dutta described the company's development journey as a transition from brand-building towards broader ecosystem development. He said the proposed projects would form part of the company's plans for stronger manufacturing capabilities, wider market presence and relationships with its distribution network.
The proposed Chakai project is expected by the company to contribute to industrial activity in the region and create opportunities for ancillary businesses, logistics and services. These remain proposed outcomes and would depend on project implementation, approvals, investment and other required processes.
The company's expansion plans were discussed during the TUFCON XT programme held in Kolkata in September 2026, where the company also highlighted its nine-year journey and future growth plans.
With the proposed projects in Bihar and Nagpur, TUFCON is looking to expand its manufacturing footprint and strengthen its presence in India's steel and industrial markets. The Bihar investment remains a proposed investment and its eventual implementation will depend on the progress of the project and applicable approvals and clearances.
