Akasa Air has expanded its fleet to 42 aircraft with the induction of a new Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 at Navi Mumbai International Airport on September 1.

The latest addition marks the airline’s 11th aircraft induction in 2026, highlighting its rapid expansion in India’s aviation sector.

The newly inducted aircraft, bearing registration number VT-YBS, is part of Akasa Air’s growing Boeing 737 MAX fleet. The airline said that the expansion will help it increase connectivity, serve more passengers and add more destinations to its network.

Akasa Air has been steadily increasing its fleet since beginning operations in 2022. The airline had earlier welcomed its 40th aircraft in July 2026, with another aircraft subsequently taking its total fleet size to 42.

Aircraft Designed for Passenger Comfort

The newly inducted Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 has been configured according to Akasa Air’s specifications. It features Safran Z200 seats, which offer a four-inch recline, contoured backrests and an enhanced seating area.

The aircraft also comes equipped with USB-C and USB-A charging ports, giving passengers additional convenience during flights.

Major Aircraft Order

Akasa Air has placed a firm order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as part of its long-term fleet expansion strategy. The airline has a substantial pipeline of additional aircraft scheduled for delivery over the coming years.

The airline has said that the growing fleet will support its plans to expand connectivity across India and international markets. Akasa Air has also set an ambition of becoming one of the top 30 airlines globally by the end of the decade.

The latest aircraft induction comes at a significant time for Mumbai’s aviation sector, with Navi Mumbai International Airport increasingly becoming an important part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s air connectivity network.

With its fleet now standing at 42 aircraft and further deliveries planned, Akasa Air is positioning itself for continued growth in India’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
