Derogatory Remarks Complaint: Two BRS MLCs Arrested, Court Declines Police Remand Plea

Hyderabad: Two BRS MLCs, T. Madhusudhan alias Tatha Madhu and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy, were arrested by Saifabad police in connection with a complaint alleging that they made derogatory remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar during a confrontation outside the Assembly on September 7. The two legislators were subsequently released after a Nampally court declined the police request for their remand.

According to the complaint lodged by the Speaker's Officer on Special Duty, the two MLCs allegedly used objectionable language against the Speaker during the incident. Police registered a case based on the complaint and arrested the legislators.

The allegations have been disputed by the BRS leaders. Madhusudhan denied insulting the Speaker and maintained that his remarks were directed at police personnel during the confrontation.

Court declines remand request

Police produced the two MLCs before the court and sought judicial remand. The court rejected the remand request and directed the accused to furnish personal bonds of Rs 20,000 each along with two sureties. They were also directed to appear before the court at the next hearing.

The arrest and subsequent release have added another layer to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the BRS in Telangana.

Case linked to Assembly protest

The case relates to the tense scenes outside the Assembly on September 7, when BRS legislators and MLCs staged a protest and attempted to enter the legislature premises wearing black shirts. The confrontation between the protesters and police subsequently led to complaints and counter-allegations.

The BRS has accused the Congress government of using police cases to target Opposition leaders, while the ruling party has maintained that allegations concerning the dignity of the Speaker's office cannot be ignored.

The two MLCs were also suspended from the Legislative Council for the remainder of the session over the controversy.

Allegations yet to be established

The criminal case remains pending, and the allegations against the two legislators have not been established in court. Their release following rejection of the remand plea marks the latest development in the ongoing political dispute.
