A Step Towards a Cleaner and Greener Community
Ispat Nagari Meghnad Saha Madhyamik Vidyalaya organised a Community Awareness Programme on Solid Waste Management on 8 October 2026 under the nationwide cleanliness initiative “Swachhata Hi Seva.” The programme aimed to raise awareness among students and local residents about cleanliness, responsible waste disposal, and environmental protection.
Students, teachers, and school representatives participated enthusiastically in the programme. Carrying awareness placards and displaying informative messages, students encouraged residents to adopt responsible waste management practices in their daily lives.
The campaign highlighted the importance of waste segregation at source, particularly separating wet and dry waste. Students explained that biodegradable waste can be converted into compost, while recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal should be collected separately. They also highlighted the harmful effects of littering, indiscriminate dumping, and improper household waste disposal on public health and the environment.
The awareness drive encouraged residents to use dustbins, reduce single-use plastic consumption, avoid throwing garbage on roads and into drains, and actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean. Through their involvement, students demonstrated how small individual actions can contribute to meaningful change in the community.
The programme reflected the school's commitment to environmental education, civic responsibility, and community participation. It reinforced the message that cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of municipal authorities but a shared duty of every citizen.
Through this initiative, Ispat Nagari Meghnad Saha Madhyamik Vidyalaya sought to encourage lasting behavioural change among students and community members. The programme concluded with a message emphasising that cleanliness begins with individuals and that responsible waste management is essential for building a healthier environment.
