Two Cops Suspended in Jajpur After Accused Escapes from Police Custody
Binjharpur, Jajpur, Odisha, 17/08/2026 — Two police personnel of Binjharpur Police Station have been placed under suspension following an alleged lapse in custody after an accused escaped from police custody last week.
According to officials, ASI Radhakanta Majhi and Constable Sunil Kumar Kulu were suspended following an incident on the evening of August 14. The accused, who had been brought to the police station in connection with theft cases reported in the Angala area, allegedly managed to flee while in police custody.
Police inquiry underway
The Jajpur Superintendent of Police ordered an inquiry into the incident. Following a review of the circumstances surrounding the escape, disciplinary action was initiated against the two personnel over the alleged lapse in custody and supervision.
Police said the accused was being questioned in connection with theft cases registered in Angala and nearby areas. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him.
Police tighten custody arrangements
Jajpur Police said appropriate action would be taken in cases of negligence in duty. Senior officers have also directed police stations in the district to follow established custody procedures and maintain proper supervision of persons detained for questioning.
