Gurdaspur, September 11:
Residents of several areas of Gurdaspur district may see relief on the road-connectivity front as the Punjab government has initiated the process for repairing link roads damaged during the recent floods.

According to the Punjab Government’s official e-procurement records, repair work has been taken up for various link roads damaged due to heavy flooding in Municipal Council Gurdaspur and Municipal Council Kalanaur areas under the MPLAD scheme. The tender has been listed through the Provincial Division, Gurdaspur, under the PWD (B&R) department.

Another tender issued earlier this month concerns the construction of a retaining wall along the Gurdaspur–Trimmu–Naushera Chack Raja–Dorangala road and repair of a link road in village Tibbar, which was also damaged due to heavy floods. The work has been listed under the MPLAD scheme.

The development is significant for residents of rural areas because damaged link roads directly affect daily transportation, school-going children, farmers, emergency services and access to nearby towns. For villages dependent on these roads, restoration is not simply an infrastructure issue but a matter of everyday connectivity and economic activity.

The district administration’s official website also lists ongoing infrastructure-related information and identifies Gurdaspur as a district comprising 11 blocks and 1,124 villages, highlighting the scale of the road network and the importance of maintaining rural connectivity.

Residents will now be watching closely for the completion of the tendering process and the actual commencement of repair work on the affected roads. The real test will be whether the damaged stretches are restored before further deterioration creates additional problems during the coming months.
