NRL Mega-Expansion Reaches 87% Completion, Targeted for March 2027 Commissioning
Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has achieved 87.1% physical progress on its flagship expansion project, which will triple the refinery’s capacity from 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 9 MMTPA. The expanded facility is scheduled to be fully commissioned by March 2027.
Speaking to journalists on Friday (Sept. 11) following the company’s 33rd Annual General Meeting, NRL Chairman Ranjit Rath—who also serves as Chairman and Managing Director of Oil India Limited (OIL)—highlighted the project's pivotal role in meeting the region's rising energy demand.
"The expansion will help NRL cater to eastern India, specifically West Bengal, and the northeastern region comprising eight states, where the demand for fuel has been increasing steadily," Rath said.
