PM Modi To Inaugurate Global Fintech Fest 2026 In Mumbai, AI, Tokenisation And Quantum Technology In Focus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai on Tuesday, September 8. The Prime Minister is scheduled to address delegates at around 5:45 pm as the four-day fintech event gets underway.

The Global Fintech Fest, being held from September 8 to 11 at the Jio World Centre and Trident in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), is bringing together policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, technology companies, startups, investors and other stakeholders from across the world.

This year's event will focus on emerging technologies that are expected to reshape the financial sector, including Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI), tokenisation, programmable finance and quantum technologies. The discussions will also examine how these technologies can support secure, connected and inclusive financial systems.

AI And The Future Of Digital Payments

One of the major themes at GFF 2026 is the growing role of AI in financial services. Discussions are expected to examine how AI-powered systems and autonomous AI agents could transform payments, banking and financial decision-making.

India is also preparing for developments in agentic payments, where AI systems could potentially carry out certain low-value digital transactions on behalf of users under predefined rules and safeguards.

Tokenisation And Programmable Finance

Tokenisation is another key area of discussion at the festival. The technology can enable financial and real-world assets to be represented digitally, potentially making transactions more efficient and creating new possibilities for financial markets.

The event will also examine programmable finance and how technology can make financial services more automated while maintaining security, transparency and regulatory oversight.

Quantum Technology Takes Centre Stage

Quantum technology is also expected to feature prominently at the four-day event. Discussions will explore the potential impact of quantum computing on financial systems, cybersecurity, risk management and other areas of the global economy.

With financial technology rapidly evolving, the event is expected to provide a platform for policymakers and industry leaders to discuss both the opportunities and challenges associated with these emerging technologies.

India’s Growing Fintech Ambitions

The Global Fintech Fest comes as India continues to strengthen its position in the global digital payments and fintech ecosystem. The country's experience with digital public infrastructure, particularly UPI, has become an important part of discussions around the future of payments.

The 2026 edition aims to bring together global stakeholders to discuss how emerging technologies can be used to build trusted, connected and inclusive financial systems.

With Prime Minister Modi's address marking the inauguration, Mumbai is set to become a major centre for global discussions on the next generation of financial technology.
