Rahul Gandhi Vows to Continue INDIA Alliance’s Fight for Democracy, Challenges Jantar Mantar Restrictions

New Delhi, October 13(Sandeep Natt) : Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has vowed that the INDIA alliance will continue its united struggle for what it describes as the restoration of democracy in India, accusing the government of undermining democratic institutions, the electoral system and the Constitution.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi stressed that there were no separate protests but a single movement with one common objective: restoring democratic governance in the country.

Gandhi alleged that the country’s democratic framework had been severely weakened and criticised the reported restrictions on the use of Jantar Mantar as a venue for protests. He described the location as an important platform for citizens to express their democratic concerns and said the opposition would challenge the decision.

“The people of India will not stop fighting for their voice,” Gandhi said in his address, warning that the government could not simply restrict public expression and expect citizens to remain silent.

During the press conference, Gandhi named Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar while alleging that they were responsible for developments that, in the opposition’s view, had weakened democratic processes. He insisted that those responsible should ultimately be held accountable.

Gandhi also highlighted the participation of ordinary citizens in the previous day’s protest, arguing that the gathering went beyond political parties and reflected concerns among members of the public. He thanked the people of Delhi and citizens across India who had supported the demonstration.

“This is not about us. This is about the people of India,” Gandhi said, emphasising that the movement was focused on the country’s future rather than the interests of individual political parties.

He also thanked members of the media for their coverage and acknowledged the role of journalists in bringing the developments to public attention.

Concluding his address, Gandhi reaffirmed the INDIA alliance’s commitment to continue its campaign for democratic rights and accountability. The opposition’s remarks signal continued political confrontation with the central government over electoral processes, constitutional institutions and the right to peaceful protest.

The allegations made by Gandhi reflect the opposition’s position and were not independently established during the press conference.
