Bihar is facing an escalating flood threat as the water level of the Ganga continues to rise, with authorities warning of possible flooding across several districts.

According to officials from the state disaster management department, the Ganga is already flowing around two feet above the danger mark in Patna. Water has reportedly reached service lanes near Bhadraghat and Mahavir Ghat.

The river is also expected to approach or cross the highest flood mark at Gandhi Ghat in Patna and Hathidah in Mokama, increasing concerns in low-lying areas.

Authorities have issued alerts for residents living along riverbanks and vulnerable areas in districts including Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Nalanda, Begusarai, Lakhisarai and Jehanabad.

The situation has been further complicated by rising water levels in the Sone river. All 69 gates of the Indrapuri Barrage in Rohtas have been opened, releasing around 5.16 lakh cusecs of water into the Sone.

Flood-related disruptions have also been reported in other parts of the state. The Buxar-Mohania National Highway (NH-319A) has been submerged in Buxar, while erosion along the Gandak river reportedly swept away a house in Bettiah.

In Bhagalpur, officials are monitoring the situation after an embankment breach. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary reviewed the flood situation through the Water Resources Department's command and control centre and assessed embankment conditions and rescue operations.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also inspected the rising Ganga water level and directed officials to take necessary steps to protect lives and property.

Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav criticised the state government's preparedness, alleging that adequate flood-prevention and relief arrangements had not been made. He also claimed that crops in flood-affected diara areas have been submerged.

With several rivers in spate, authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the flood threat continues to intensify across Bihar.
