Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has demanded immediate financial assistance of ₹15,000 per affected family amid the ongoing flood and drought situation in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Patna on Sunday, Yadav alleged that Bihar was facing a dual crisis, with several districts affected by floods while other areas were experiencing drought-like conditions due to deficient rainfall.

According to reports, nearly 45–50 lakh people have been affected by flooding across several districts of Bihar. Yadav also claimed that rainfall in the state was around 35 per cent below the expected level, resulting in damage to standing crops and adding to the difficulties faced by farmers.

Yadav demanded that the state government and the Centre conduct a detailed survey of flood- and drought-affected areas and assess crop losses before providing compensation to farmers.

He also criticised the relief measures being undertaken by the government. Yadav alleged that some community kitchens and relief camps were shut within a few days and argued that affected families continue to need food, clothing, utensils and other essential supplies even after floodwaters recede.

The RJD leader further questioned the government over the use of disaster-relief funds and claimed that adequate financial resources should be made available for flood victims.

He also criticised the spending on celebrations linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, arguing that relief and rehabilitation should receive priority during the crisis.

These remarks are part of Yadav’s political criticism of the state and central governments.

Yadav also urged BJP state president Nitin Nabin to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to visit flood- and drought-affected areas of Bihar.

He reiterated his demand for ₹15,000 immediate assistance for every affected family, along with compensation for farmers whose crops have been damaged by floods or drought.

Meanwhile, government agencies have continued relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas, with reports indicating the deployment of SDRF and NDRF teams, boats, relief camps and community kitchens in several districts.

The flood and drought situation remains a major challenge for Bihar, with demands for greater relief, crop-loss assessment and rehabilitation continuing amid the ongoing crisis.
