Kolkata, August 12: The spirit of patriotism is sweeping across West Bengal as the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign gets under way across the state, with the Tricolour reaching schools, government offices and institutions at the grassroots level.
The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (I&CA), Government of West Bengal, has undertaken the campaign from August 9 to 17, with programmes being organised not only at the district level but also across corporations, sub-divisions and blocks.
The initiative seeks to turn the celebration of Independence Day into a wider people's movement, encouraging citizens to display the National Flag with pride and observe the occasion in a spirit of unity and national solidarity.
Flags reach schools and institutions
A significant feature of the campaign has been the distribution of National Flags from the block level to schools and various government organisations. The administrative mechanism has been utilised to ensure that flags reach institutions in a coordinated and systematic manner.
Schools have been placed at the heart of the campaign, with students and teachers expected to play an important role in carrying the message of patriotism to households and communities. The participation of educational institutions is also intended to acquaint the younger generation with the values associated with the National Flag and the country's Independence.
A coordinated state-wide initiative
The campaign is being implemented through an integrated approach involving the district administration, corporation authorities, sub-divisional offices, block administrations, schools and other government organisations. Such coordination is aimed at ensuring that the programmes are conducted safely, respectfully and collectively.
The Tricolour, regarded as a powerful symbol of India's sovereignty, unity and democratic aspirations, occupies a central place in the campaign. The initiative therefore goes beyond the ceremonial display of the flag and seeks to evoke a deeper sense of belonging and responsibility among citizens.
As the campaign continues till August 17, a festive yet patriotic atmosphere is expected to prevail across Bengal.
