Punjab Farmers Rally for Iran: A Stand Against US-Israel Aggression

In a powerful display of solidarity, thousands of farmers from Punjab converged in Barnala district on Tuesday to voice their opposition against a recent trade deal between India and the United States. Their protest was particularly aimed at condemning the military aggression by the US and Israel towards Iran, reflecting growing concerns among the farming community over the implications of such international conflicts.

Jagmohan Singh, the general secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Dakaunda, expressed the sentiments of the gathering, stating, “Both the US-Israel war on Iran and the trade deal are anti-farmer.” This protest was organized under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a coalition of various farmers’ organizations. They had previously announced a call for action on March 7 against what they termed the “war unleashed on Iran by US and Israel” along with resistance to the Indo-US interim free trade agreement.

The coalition’s statement pointedly criticized Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Israel, which occurred just days before the military operation against Iran, labeling it as ignoring the ongoing human toll on Palestinians. They also highlighted the failure to swiftly condemn the killing of a key Iranian leader, emphasizing the perceived negligence of the Indian government in these global matters.

In a resolution passed during the rally, participants declared the United States as the “biggest enemy of world peace,” warning that the conflict in the Gulf could further strain an already fragile global economy, which would ultimately affect everyday Indians. The farmers’ concerns resonate deeply, as many feel the repercussions of international politics trickling down to their livelihoods.

This rally not only showcases the farmers’ discontent with foreign policies but also highlights their readiness to unite against what they see as threats to their existence and well-being. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how these international relations will impact the agricultural sector in Punjab and across India.
