Severe Drinking Water Crisis in Sribhumi District, Assam — Anger Rising in Srikrishnapur
Residents in the Ramkrishnanagar Constituency, particularly in the Dullabcherra area, have been suffering from an acute drinking water crisis for a long time.
Although pipelines and tap connections were installed in many households under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, locals allege that water supply has remained suspended for the past several months. Additionally, several homes are still without pipeline connections, forcing residents to fetch water from distant ponds, hand pumps, or other external sources.
Bringing forward the grievances of the people, social activist and advocate Mritynjou Nath has raised the issue and demanded immediate intervention from the administration. He stated that access to safe drinking water is a fundamental right and that water supply must be restored without delay.
According to villagers, the prolonged shortage has severely affected daily life, health, and sanitation, with children and the elderly facing the greatest hardship.
Residents now have a single demand — that authorities take swift and effective action to ensure a permanent solution to the crisis.
