Thick Black Smoke Engulfs Tehran After Oil Facilities Hit, Authorities Warn of Toxic Rain

Tehran: Large parts of Tehran were covered in thick black smoke after multiple oil storage facilities were struck, triggering massive fires and raising serious environmental and health concerns across the Iranian capital.

According to officials, the fires broke out at petroleum storage sites after the facilities were damaged, sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky. The burning oil released large quantities of soot, chemicals, and toxic gases into the atmosphere, significantly worsening air quality across the city.

Iranian authorities warned residents that the smoke could lead to contaminated or acidic rainfall due to chemical particles released from the burning petroleum. Environmental experts said such rainfall may carry harmful substances that could affect water, soil, and public health.

Emergency officials urged residents to remain indoors, keep windows closed, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities until the air quality improves. People with respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly were advised to take extra precautions as the polluted air could cause breathing difficulties and other health problems.
Firefighters and emergency crews have been deployed across affected areas and are working continuously to bring the fires under control. Thick smoke continued to rise from several storage tanks as authorities assessed the extent of the damage.

The incident has also highlighted the environmental risks of attacks on major energy infrastructure, especially in densely populated areas. Experts warn that damage to oil facilities can cause not only immediate fires and explosions but also long-term environmental contamination.

Officials in Iran said investigations are ongoing to determine the full impact of the incident while emergency teams continue efforts to contain the fires and reduce pollution levels.

Residents have been advised to follow official safety instructions and monitor updates from authorities as the situation develops. .
