Even after the court granted permission, the ruling DMK government did not allow the lighting of the traditional lamp at the top of the Tirupparankundram hill. However, on 21 December 2025, it granted permission to conduct a festival at the Sikandar Dargah in the evening.
In response, the Hindu Munnani planned to hold a protest in Madurai on 22 December 2025. The police denied them permission, yet allowed the VCK party — an ally of the DMK — to hold their meeting.
During that meeting, Thirumavalavan (member of lok saba) made several remarks provoking religious tension, asking things like, “Will lighting the lamp bring an AIIMS hospital? Will it put food on your plate?”
Reacting to this, actress Kasthuri held a press conference on 23 December 2025 at Tirupparankundram, where she responded, “If conducting a Dargah festival gives you food, then what’s wrong with lighting the lamp?” She also challenged Thirumavalavan, saying, “If you dissolve your party, I’ll feed ten thousand people.”
